Lowered Seat

Curious if anyone has had any problems with the front seat latch on this bike?

Mine does not stay latched. It appears that it is in place but there is a spot on the seat I can push on and the seat comes unlatched up front. The back latch stays in place.

I went to the dealer and they looked at it but could not fix it .. yet. They are going to put in a call/letter or something to BMW and see what they say.

Anyway ..anyone have any issues like this?

thanks
Suzanne

First time I replaced my (standard height) seat, I had a similar problem - I didn't get the "tongue" located in the slot in the seat base, so that when i sat on the seat, it pressed down on the tongue, causing it to deform slightly. As a result, it was impossible to get it to locate correctly in the slot on subsequent seat replacements. I didn't need a hairdryer to correct it - I simply levered the tongue upwards a bit.

Had the same thing with mine. I took it to my dealer and they futzed with it for about an hour, including trying other seats. It ended up being that the rubber protective pads at the front of the seat were hitting the ones on the "tank". We popped them off the tank area and now it fits perfect.

Of course this is coming from someone who's mechanical ability rivals a monkey with no thumbs.

Sounds like my skill set but I do believe I can remove those pad things. [:D] I have a hair dryer, somewhere, but I would probably break the latch off.

For those without a hair dryer (it would not have a lot to work with on my noggin), another trick is to wedge something temporarily into the area on the bike where the tab on the seat is supposed to go. A champagne cork worked for me (I can't wait for the comments, so I'll say in advance it was much more fun than drying what's left of my hair) and even though it didn't last long, it was enough to re-shape the seat tab, which is working fine now.

IOW, the cork lifted the plastic enough to guide things into correct alignment and then my weight on the seat, with the tab properly inserted, fixed the problem over time.

Suzanne, DON'T even go there.............[B)]
If you do a forum search you will find previous threads regarding the same problem and more or less the same solution. Once the tab is fixed, just make sure that you get the angle of the dangle right on the seat when you reinstall it and you should have no further problems.

380 eh? Not a bad ride. For me M-F typically from McKinney to Frisco .. or around McKinney or to Plano ..depends on which campus I will be on that day.

I will be on the lookout for the Other One----- I am fairly easy to spot as I wear a mesh vest with dayglo green stripes. [8D] Did you get yours in Plano?
