Had a 20" Madstad on my previous GT and had one issue with it. At it lowest setting, in really hot weather, it was too good. At it's lowest setting I wanted more air. Ideal height , for me, would be airflow that just hits my helmet vent. Considering an 18" this time but don't want to lose the still pocket of air that I had with the 20" in "normal" weather. I want a blast of air in the lowest setting and still air in the highest. Anyone have any experience with an 18" Madstad?

I don't have experience with it on the GT, but I'm sure I will one day. I do however have the 18" adventure madstad on my Vstrom. Love it. I would have to say, that if the 20 isn't low enough, then by all means get the 18". You can raise it when you need to. It seems like there is more than 2 inches of adjustment in the bracket.

Little bit of a pin in the arse, but I run my stock screen in the summer and my taller Puig in the winter. Doesn't take too long to swap them out, although not as quick as on previous bikes. There are some plastic washers/shim things with metal inserts. Those are kind of fussy to swap out, so I just bought a second set and leave them installed on the separate screens.

Ended up buying a 20" Madstad and, once again, it was love at first ride. Within a 1/2 hour I had the perfect setting for smooth air over the top of my helmet. Putchased an 18" windshield from a member of this group and will swap it for hot weather. With just four bolts I'll have the best of both worlds.

I was looking at the R1200RS for a brief moment. One of the best ways to find out about a bike, is to lurk on the forum and see what complaints others have. Well, one of the complaints was the windshield, and like usual, it seemed the owners had mixed results with the replacement windshields they picked. And then I get on my GT with its Madstad windshield and sit in quiet (but not still) air. Why would I want to give up that?

"love at first ride" is a good way to put it.

Yes, I too have about 300 miles on the Madstad I bought on this forum. So much better than the stock. Like Chris says, not still air, but smooth air with the blast at top of helmet. It makes the ride much more relaxing. Now, if I could just stop these Texas winds......

I have the 20" Madstad system that I installed on a recently purchased 13 GT. I also have 2" ROX risers tipped back at about 45 degrees. This setting puts me straight up in the std height seat.(puppy dog style) I am 5'7". I had Madstad brackets and a Windstrom wind screen on a WeeStrom and was able to get no buffeting. I am having a heck of a time finding a position for the Madstad windscreen that doesn't give me significant buffeting above 55 mph. Could someone give me some suggestions please?

I'm 5'6" with a 20 inch Madstad. I'm using MV Verholen bar risers. So I'm probably where you are for seating position.

I have my screen all the way down. The top is moved forward perhaps a third of an inch. In other words, just barely. Wind hits the top of the helmet. No turbulence at all. If needed, I can take a picture of the brackets to show you where they are.

Seat is the standard OEM seat.

This is my condition as well. However, I am having a hard time clearing rain from my full-face helmet[:(] It seems like the wind should hit the helmet somewhat.

My first Madstad was on an ST and I still remember hunting for that sweet spot. What worked for me was to find a height that put the air stream at the top of my helmet. I then changed the angle, in very small increments, until the buffeting went bye-bye. With all the possibilities you'll find your setting.

Try RainX. Works great. The water beads up and is slides off to the side.

Supposedly, you aren't supposed to use RainX on helmet visors. I've used it on Nolan, Scorpion, Lazer and now Shoei helmet visors with no issues.

Of all the options available, "adjustable" makes the most sense.

I'm 5'6" 30" inseam, about 154lbs, short arms. Standard height seat, ROX 2" risers adjusted about 45 degrees. On previous bikes, my screen has been rather high...seeing an inch or so over the top. No bobble-head.

Would I need an 18" or 20" Madstad?? With the stock screen, the wind wants to rip my head off.

I plan to somehow "tint" the screen to hide all the bracketry, but leave the top clear.

I have a 20 inch Madstad in a light smoke tint. It works well.

I too am 5'6". And I wish I was 154 lbs. :D I've got the Verholen risers, so we're about the same for height and distance from the handlebars.

If something happened to my Madstad, I wouldn't even think twice about buying another. At whatever cost they are. It works.

I was going to take a picture for you, but I wimped out. It's cold and dark outside. My GT is in a warm garage. I think you know where this line of thought is heading. ;)

I look over the top of my 20 inch Madstad. I don't look through it. I don't see any lighted top edge at all, but there is some light caught at the bottom portion of the screen. It's out of my sight totally when traveling down the road. I'll notice it only when I look down, which I don't do except to look at my instruments. And it doesn't bother my night vision at all.

I mostly ride during daylight but have not noticed any lighting issues on the screen as you describe.

During the day, I sometimes notice what appears to be a reflection from the screen back out in front of me which shows on reflective signs. Maybe that increases my visibility to drivers! Seems to happen most when heading into the setting sun.
