Whatever happened to the bullet hole stickers that were in fad some years ago? I still have three of these on my silver FZ1 and they look great on aluminum parts. Personally, I like carbon fiber as a structural material, but prefer it painted and have no use for fake carbon fiber decals. But then I am old enough to appreciate "bathtub" Nash sedans that were made with real steel and not lousy wimpy plastic. Old cars would never be caught dead on the road with decals - but lots of heavy chrome mined in South Africa, now that is another matter.

Dave, these are EXTREMELY LAME. In fact, you should get rid of them immediately. If you send them my way I'll be happy to recycle them responsibly.

carbon fiber has always looked really cool to me! i just got some wunderlich stick on protection that looks like carbon fiber.....sort of.
what does everyone think of this type of thing? the big tank decal is really to keep from scuffing it up with a tank bag and the key surround is so the key chain does no damage so i feel okay about those items but, the others i have posted below i am starting to think look lame. maybe just not what one should do to the artful appearence of the f800gs stock beauty. i am open to all comments and opinions.

They don't save weight - which is the whole idea of carbon fibre - so the opinion is: lame. If you want paint protection, get some of that clear plastic stuff.

If I ever get around to it, I'll try to make some of the body parts, mudguards, etc. out of carbon (then I'll feel a bit happier about dropping the GS, knowing I can make replacement bits). Have got as far as buying the cloth, haven't made anything other than a radar detector tray so far...

Carbon fibre decals looks naff.

Real carbon fibre components should be painted to protect them from UV light degradation.

 

so i installed these things figuring they are removable.. but they don't look too bad! as soon as somebody in a parking lot somewhere says "whats with the fake carbon fiber?" i will pull it but, until then tell me what you think....don't worry, i can take it![]

 

How do you like the Corbin Seat?

It looks very different from the one on the Corbin web site.

No pleats and it does not seem to have as much of a pocket for your rear.

 

i like it...still too wide in the "neck" and makes it hard to find the ground with my portly little legs. i had it custom made at corbin in hollister and they allow one free re-work so, i will have it re-done. i have the touratech on order and will do a comparison when i have ridden them all....stock, corbin and TT. i will then have to sell the one i don't like and purchase the sargent and send the stocker off to renazco to see how i like those.

i will post photos and my opinion for all to see! probably next weekend on the first three.

 

corbin looks GREAT, stickers......not so much. they look alright, but it is a GS. i would have gotten something more like wood trim stickers or something.

 

My opinion on the Carbon Stickers -

If you like them, screw what other people think. It's your bike.

 

Love the tank, key surround and fuel tank - I like them too but need the real thing for both side covers (some wear marks already appearing). The real things are going to cost me a fortune and I may wait will after the damage gets aggravating.

 

which side covers? do you mean the air intake covers? i bought some off of ebay that look nice but don't fit quite perfect. nobody has noticed the fit issues yet but i see them! they only use 3 of the 8 mount points of the originals yet seem pretty sturdy.....

Dave, should have said the crank case cover on the right (just above brake pedal) and left (above gear changer) - if I don't protect these with a carbon kit they'll look very ordinary with signs of boot scuff marks already (only 600 miles) - any ideas welcome.

 

aahhhh! i see! do you have a line on covers? i would love to do that! i know they (somebody) make an aluminum cover for my drz400sm, but i have yet to see anything for the F8.

 

Dave, I've seen them somewhere and know Tourateck have them item 01-048-0338-0 & item 01-048-0340-0. But there not real fancy and better deals will be out there somewhere.

My local bike shop contact (he's used to thumpers) suggested I fabricate them myself from light sheet stainless (fairly easy to shape with a plama cutter) and use heat resistant sealant to apply (he knocks these up for muffler protection) but somehow I just can't see myself gerry-rigging things onto the GS for now.

 

Ah, those intakes are stunning - that's what I want to do with all the bodywork - gelcoat for the currently grey stuff, and just plain carbon for the black bits.
