Both the mirrors on my F800GS were snapped off during shipping. I'm looking for some cheapo replacements while the dealer has a new set on back order.

I know the thread is metric, but is it a 1.25 or 1.5 pitch? Also do both mirrors thread in clockwise or does one thread in counterclockwise?

The top of the threaded inserts need to be cleaned up with a tap.... I just want to make sure I use the right one.

Thanks

I guess the 800 is different, my 650 has no threads. I scratched my head for a few seconds when re-installing them because I had never seen mirrors attached by compression fitting.
Strange also that they shipped your bike with the mirrors attached, mine were off for initial delivery and again for transport to the US.

I just put on a "custom" version of the SW-Motech mirror extenders and on my bike -- it is the "coarse" thread M10 x 1.25

If you take the bracket off the handle bars you MIGHT be able to feed the tap in from the other side thus eliminating the chance of making things worse ;)

It is interesting design:

Threaded bracket on the bars ---> accepts a collet adapter ---> accepts the mirror which is just a smooth rod end.

More expensive than the traditional design, but then I would guess it would be more resilient to damage also...

If the F650GS threads are in fact M10x1.25 (which is considered fine) look into KTM mirrors. They are reasonably smooth, larger than the 650 mirrors, and help in terms of buffeting. I had a Wee 650 which was terribly noisy & buffeting...these KTM mirrors helped. Sorry, but I no longer have the part #. My F650GS is scheduled for Jan delivery. I intend to go to these mirrors.

GENTLEMEN: I am misinformed. I just checked the KTM mirrors...they are not M10...they appear to be M8 coarse LH thread. When I had them on the V-Strom a machinist made some adapters to get them to M10x1.25.

They are nicer and bigger than the F650GS mirrors....there are some KTM mirrors....probably from a 990 that are bigger yet...VERY nice street mirrors
