Hey guys need some ideas to investigate regarding my bike.

Symptoms.

  • Will idel in neutral and sounds normal
  • Put it in to first and the revs will drop and conk out
  • If I keep the revs high and pull away it will move somewhat although serve loss of power.

I have already put in a new clutch thinking this was the problem but sadly it didnt fix it.

Any ideas?

leaf. I see you've joined us 16 hours ago....so welcome. It takes a while to get used to navigating this forum, but if you do a search, you will fiind numerous threads on this topic and just as many solutions. Every bike is different and what cures the problem on someone elses bike may not fix it on yours. I'd suggest start with "easiest/cheapest" solution, and if that doesn;t fix it , move on to the next one. As a matter of interest, why did you feel that the culprit was the clutch?

thank you kindy for responding Redned. I had taken the bike in for a saftey inspection and the mechanic said my clutch was burnt out. It wasn't until a week later that I started noticing the power issue.

leaf. By safety check do you mean the annual rego check (what state are you in?), or had you just purchased the bike and felt it would be a good idea to get it checked out? Why did the "mechanic" feel the clutch was burnt out? You say in you're original post...."if I put it in first, the revs drop and it conks out". If the clutch was slipping badly, it wouldn't conk out,and if it was, then it most likely would have been unridable. Was the check carried out at a motorcycle shop, or just a servo that does rego checks? From the little you've told us, it sounds like a fuel problem. Can you give us more detail of the problem.......I'd also change mechanics.

I guess you are new to this forum, welcome abroad man. All symptoms are showing carelessness might be you didn't repair it properly or look after it that's why its getting stuck. Give it a proper check out. But need not to panic because these all are quite common issues, which time and again, bikers have to face.

What was wrong with the old clutch you removed? My F800S has 133K miles on the clock and last inspection of the clutch showed some wear on some of the cork pads but I've continued to use it and it works just fine.
There have been a few variations in the clutch and if the wrong one was fitted it could be an issue.
When you rev the bike and drop it into first do you need to hold the brake to stop it pulling along? ie do you have clutch drag?
When you say loss of power do you mean the revs are high but its not being transferred to moving the bike along (clutch slip)

I was also thinking it could be clutch drag and slip, but was afraid to say it. Perhaps the solution could be as simple as clutch adjustment?
