gear lever adjustment?

I took the F800R out for the first time today and have found that the gear lever is set up steel toed jackboots - it's way too high.

How to adjust? Every other bike I've had has 2 nuts and a turnbukle to adjust the length of the shift rod. This thing has 1 nut.

I removed the nut holding the ball joint to the lever, and loosened the locknut on the shift rod. This allowed me to push the ball joint off the back of the lever and rotate it on the shift rod. Was this the correct way to adjust it?

Reason I ask is that when I replaced the ball joint the nut holding it to the lever will not tighten - it seems to be spinning the stud inside the ball joint. I'm no expecting it all to fall off next time I ride.

Any pointers please?

youngy, sometimes things are quiet.
I have never tried to adjust my gear lever myself so cant advise, did you try doing a search? there are several strings discussing method of adjustment, or add ons that will adjust the position of the footrest.

be patient, someone will know best way

yep I saw that but it doesn't address the question. What concerned me was whether I should have removed the whole assembly or broken it in half as I did, as the nut now does not seem to tighten.

I had an issue where the site was all in French, but it cleared itself back to English on its own.

Hi

Yes when you tighten the nut on the ball joint the bolt just spins but if you put a spanner 14mm or 17mm on the inside of the lever near the ball-joint http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x377/rat-catcher/_1.jpghttp:// you will see the outer nut on the left of the picture the larger nut is inside of that. Hope that makes sense Not sure about the size of spanner needed but check it out it worked on my bike
