Hello,

So after trying various replacement supposedly 'CANbus' compatible LED replacement lamps, I can now report that I have found a full set without errors or having to reprogramme the bike.....

- This was the trickiest. Most of the units worked until the brake applied, then the circuit would trip, or if they worked for both tail/brake, they were much too dim. This bulb works and it's pretty bright. Not as bright as some, but all of the above lamps appear significantly brighter than the halogens they replace.

They are all a similar colour temperature (cool white). They are all plug & play. Do not be fooled by having to remove much bike to fit. They are all a 5 min job each - especially the sidelight. Don't bother disconnecting the wire to the unit simply quarter turn anti clockwise and ease out the whole unit with the bulb in place and then pull the bulb out.

I've gone for the bestish quality in all cases.

In case anyone is looking, I just bought these exact bulbs from AliExpress for £6.60 each.
Fairly easy fit to the bike (not an issue with the bulbs, just got big hands and there's not a lot of space to see what you are doing)
Work well. Main Beam is noticeably better than with halogen bulb.
Took about a week to arrive.

Well, I bought the exact set of LED units you used from the UK, put them in and got the LAMP error. I have a 2008 ST, the new lights work (love the brightness, big improvement), but the flashing error triangle is super annoying. I tried to cancel the error with my Motoscan app to no avail. I didn't use the same 5W side bulb as you did, however- I thought I could get away with another type of LED that I ordered on eBay. When I turn the key to start the bike after it's been sitting for awhile, the side light flashes brightly for a split second, as if it's just burned out. But then it stays on and the lights work as normal. When the bike is warmed up and restarted the sidelight doesn't flash, which is weird. All the lights seem to work normally, so I guess the only way to defeat the LAMP error is to install a decoder and see what happens. I was really hoping to avoid doing that as I understand that the decoder/resistor units generate a lot of heat and need to to be mounted on metal somewhere in the tight confines of the headlight area. Have I missed something here? Or am I crazy to expect a smooth installation on a 15 year old bike?

Hello from the UK. It sounds to me like it's the side light that's causing the error. What happens if you just put the old non led light in there? If that works, theres the answer. I had a problem with a different led side light getting too bright then switching off - got the triangle too. If it's not that then I guess it might be that mines a 2012 bike and perhaps has a different set up!? My money's on the side light! I tried loads of different led bulbs to get to where I got to.
You called it! I replaced the sidelight with a halogen bulb and the LAMP error disappeared. I guess it makes sense given the way the LED bulb flashed so brightly when I switched the bike on, it was getting more current than it needed for a split second, and the system was triggered because the LED was drawing much less current than the halogen bulb to operate. I may try the LED side light you used, but for now I think I'll just forget it and ride the bike. I'm glad that the two replacement LED's (high/low beam) don't trigger any errors. Thanks for the info!
Great!!! Really pleased you got it to work....
FYI the LED sidelight bulbs that you recommended are not available in the US, or rather the company doesn't/won't ship them to the US. Any idea why that would be? Did one of us Yanks accidentally blind the CEO with that specific bulb on the motorway one day and this is his/her idea of retaliation? Weird. In any case, do you know of any other sidelight LED options that work with the ST?
Hi Kevin, I have no idea, strange. Would you like me to order you one and then post it on?

edit: just did a picture search and found these on the US ebay, they look the same! Worth a try? Happy to order you one and post otherwise.

I think I might be better off going with the tried and true. If you you could obtain 2 of the LED's that you used for your sidelight and mail them to me, I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know what information you need from me, I can use both PayPal and/or Venmo to reimburse you. Thanks!

No problem, then you can blind the CEO in both eyes at the same time!!

I'll order them up right now. Is there a way to pm on this forum? I've never been able to find it.
Afraid I don't know the answer to that, sorry.

Thanks Kevin. I've got that so you can delete it now if you want. When they arrive I'll let you know! 😜
To PM, hover on the avatar, a window opens, in the lower right-hand corner is "message", click on that and get a page for a PM.
I didn't know you could do that, thanks for the info!
Nor did I, been looking for ages. Thanks!
So having read more than once now that LED lamps tend not to last as long if they get too hot for too long, I decided to take my trusty drill to the headlights dust caps and put some vent holes in. I figured that if I screwed it up it was only a dust cover to replace.... View attachment 392405
Hi I am interested to hear if your mod worked and if the LED bulbs are still ok.

Hi Terry,

Yep the bulbs are still going strong! Can't say whether or not the mod has made any difference, I just did it based on the knowledge that any cooling would help.

Am off touring on 1st may so they will be on a lot for a week. Will see how I get on but not expecting any issues.

Hey Folks-
I wanted to send along an update on my search for error-free LED bulbs for my '08 ST. I ordered a pair of the Auxito H7 bulbs that Perry suggested (see 1st screenshot attached) and they are working perfectly so far, with no LAMP errors. Then I bought a pair of the LED parking lights that worked on his bike (thank you, sir), but I installed one and got the dreaded LAMP error. I really like the brightness of the LED's and wanted to ride with an all-LED headlight shell. So, after a little digging I found a company called SuperBrightLEDS (LED Lighting For Everything | Super Bright LEDs), did a search for my bike and ordered a couple of the bulbs they recommended (see 2nd screenshot). They arrived today and I can report that the parking light works with no LAMP error! This is the kind of thing that makes me a happy old man. The only potential problem with them is that, though it's hard to tell for sure, the bulb seems to actually contact the plastic shell. Time will tell if this causes any damage to the shell long-term, but for now it's all good!
