My 2019 GT is my third F800. Generally very happy with performance, handling and build quality BUT, on each bike the paint has rapidly been blasted off the centre stand cross brace which catches all road crud despite having fender extender fitted. Only a cosmetic issue but annoying.
I have tried repainting with Hammerite and also stone chip paint but neither last long. Anybody found a paint that survives in that location and available in UK?

Chris. I don't worry about it because I can't see it and I don't feel it weakens or harms the stand in any way. However that's just me and I accept that for others it's annoying. No matter what you coated it with, being in such a harsh environment, I feel it would always end up looking ratty. After you've repainted it, could you split a piece of soft pvc tubing length ways and slide it over the cross bar. You may not like the look of that either, but at least you wouldn't have to repaint it so often. Just a thought.

I second Redned's recommendation about sheathing the crossbar. I paint the c/s annually (with Hammerite), then grease the crossbar & use Cable Sheath I think mine was maybe 50cm length (not the 10m here)

My go to for issues like this is to paint with used engine oil, my primary concern is stopping the corrosion. It's just my opinion but unless you remove the centre stand from the bike and properly bead blast to get rid of all rust then prime and paint/powder coat all you'll achieve is to cover the problem whilst the centre stand continues to rust under your fresh paint.

I've done this to the engine sump (as the original paint falls away in sheets) and the centre stand. OK it's not ideal but its quick and easy to do.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I have some suitably sized black silicone rubber hose which I could slit lengthways, slip over the cross bar and secure with zip ties and apply ACF 50 regularly to combat corrosion.

I don't know the availability of such a service in your area but you might try pulling the centre stand off and have the brace coated with truck bed liner. It is very abrasive resistant.
I have beat the heck out of my truck bed and the liner has held up well for 13 years.

Here in the US; we can buy truck bed liner in a rattle (spray) can. I'd clean it well and use rust converter first.

I was concerned, but I cleand the crossbar, used a thick Black paint in a few thin coats, then used a part of inner tube lengthwise the crossbar and the uprights and used contact cement and as a back up used black zip ties 2 or 3 pre section cut to wrap around. I have done that on all by bikes for the last 20 years, never had a problem. the thicker rubber is a great guard resisting all sand and rocks and stones. I also do it on my 2 BMWsif it ever rips or comes loose it is a cheap fix. PSI also did a fender extender to keep nicks and damage on the engine.
