  1. F800GS, F800GS Adventure, F650GS Twin Discussion
Hello all, Purchased a second hand 2013 GS. After the summer I noticed it is losing a bit of oil by what i guess is the water pump. Is this a common problem? Is it something BMW should have a look, or can I fix it myself? Bike is now winterized.

Hey everyone, My 2017 F800 GS with 32,000 miles has developed a small oil leak around the front portion of the stator cover, just behind the exhaust pipe. I first noticed this leak around December 2020. I had changed the oil the day before I noticed the seeping and assumed it was some oil that...

Since the oil drain plug is on the side (of the side stand), WHY are we 'suppose' to drain the oil with the bike on the center stand? Do you? When checking the oil - the engine / oil is to be warm. How long do you run the engine (from cold) to warm it up? How long do you wait for the oil...

The Haynes repair manual indicates the brake and clutch cables should be oiled at every service. The BMW Workshop CD doesn't say anything about that in the checklist for service maintenance. I'm also only able to find cable oil and the corresponding tool in stores specialized in motocross, which...

I'm new to this group. I'm also new to my recently purchased F800 GT, slightly used. I haven't ridden in years, so I need to get up to speed (pun intended). Three questions... 1) Which brand of oil filter is the best? I don't care how much it costs. 2) Which 15W-50 brand do you use? A good...

I'm the lucky purchaser of a "new to me" 2014 F800GT with approximately 1,450 miles! And after spending all that money, I'm now dreading the cost of the annual service. The seller completed the 600 mile break-in service in October 2014, but no others since then. My research on this forum...

Here is a copy of an email I have just sent. I will let you all know how it works out. Dear Sirs, Four weeks ago I brought my BMW F800s into your dealership to have the rear bearing looked at under recall. While booking the bike into your service department I mentioned that the...

Hi guys, I am new in this things! I just moved to another city and we don't have BMW dealer in here! on my owner's manual it say that I have to put SAE 10W40 oil engine! so I went to NAPA store and I got Castrol SAE 10W40 but it is for cars, I put it into my bike, but I have a friend who told...

I know these questions can get passionate, but here we go anyway with a question on oil changes and time. With the extended mileage range now before oil changes, do we still need to change the oil every 12 months? If I am parking the vehicle for the winter, I always change the oil in the Fall...

Im new to bikes and my F800R is relatively new. I mostly use it for commuting to work in the city and rides here and there. I know on a car its 4000 to 6000 miles depending, so after how many should I do it on this bike?

The sardine can heat exchanger looks like it's weeping some oil. Had thought it was the oil filter but it's definitely from the join of the can to it's base. The BMW service DVD shows how to remove the heat exchanger without draining the coolant. But the first step then directs you to draining...

It looks like am either going to pick up a new BMW F800ST, F800GS, or F650GS either tomorrow, or next week. (going to take a few more BMW test rides and one on a Vstrom before I make my decision tomorrow) I would prefer to pick the bike up sooner as I have a lengthy trip coming up and hate to...

Just a heads up for leaks on your oil heat exchanger on the front of the engine. Mine started leaking after 2 years and 20,000 miles. Seems my dealer had a run of them doing that. So maybe worth keeping an eye on them. I had noticed mine was very soft and was showing signs of wear and tear from...
